A Few Things Parents Need to Know

Requirements by the State of California

Since 2003, California's Department of Education has been implementing its yearly Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR).
This test requires California students and specifically your kids, pass series of test to assess their learning levels and seek out means to meet California's scholastic standards. A standardized passing score is required for each grade. Naturally your child's public school has been clearly providing you a following list of required exams:
-For Second and Third Grades, students will have to take a series of exams on verbal, grammar, lettering, punctuation and spelling.
-Fourth to Seventh graders will be tested on his or her ability to deduce and express ideas on a given topic through written and verbal response.
-Ninth to Eleventh graders will take exams on science, history and social study.
-In addition to English, all public school students also have to make passing grades in Maths, and other elective classes.

Few suggestions in helping your children

As you know, Second and Third graders love to study, to read, to draw...Many parents perceive at these levels their children would learn simple and easy arithmetic, reading and writing. But have a look at the "Standard Assessment" ( www.cde.ca.gov/statetests/star.html ). The current curriculum already focused on linguistics and testing of foreign languages' basic usage. This requires a family member who's really fluent and understands foreign languages to explain and repeat how to speak those languages. The students should practice regularly through examples and repetition until they understand. They should be well versed in the studied languages to meet the required standards and ready for their yearly tests. At these grades, it's usually the first time the students deal with foreign languages. It is important that they should be instructed correctly by linguistic experts as parents normally are preoccupied with other daily responsibilities.
As for fourth to seventh graders, the majority of them already picked up good studying habits. However, the volume of homeworks and extracurricular activities can overwhelm your children and make them fallen behind scholastically. This can discourage and turn them off to studying. To prevent these setbacks, C.E.C suggests you to enroll your children with us, the sooner the better. The center will stem your kids' learning regression and accelerate their progress. This should make you and them feel good about their scholastic outlook.
Ninth to Eleventh graders usually have difficult with jargons and specialties like maths, physics, chemistry, sciences, history, or social studies. These intimidating subjects can deter them from learning and making passing grades. C.E.C can support your children by reviewing and reinforcing what they had learned in school. Furthermore, the center will de-mystify these seemingly complicated subjects and help the students comprehend and remember them easily. Good grades should ensue.
C.E.C's mission is to help all students succeeded and excelled. The center always welcomes parents and their children who are looking for solid improvements and achievements for their planned future.
